As our supplement range has grown, and with so many dogs between us and our families, we're always looking for new ways to enrich our own dogs' lives, and yours too. Dog health matters more to me (Taylor) and Jayne than almost anything else in this business.
Sadly, dogs age far quicker than we do, and it creeps up on you. Both Jayne and I have older dogs who've started to slow down. We noticed ours struggling more after walks and not recovering the way they used to, and we knew we had to bring in a hip and joint supplement. But we didn't want to just slap a label on something full of filler ingredients that don't actually do anything. So it took months of back and forth with our manufacturer, and countless nights researching the most effective natural ingredients for hip, joint and muscle health, to land on a formula we were proud to put our name on.
What is it?
Our Hip & Joint Chews are a chicken flavoured, all natural supplement designed to support your dog's hips, joints and muscles over the long term. They come as soft chews that look and smell like a treat, so there's no need to hide them in food. 120 chews per bag.
What does it cost?
£27.99 for a bag of 120 chews.
What's in it?
Per 2 chews you get Glucosamine HCl (300mg), MSM (200mg), Turmeric (150mg), Green Lipped Mussels (100mg) and Chondroitin (75mg), plus Boswellia, flaxseed, Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, Devil's Claw and Vitamin E. No fillers, no nasty chemicals. Just ingredients that are actually working for your dog.
How does it compare to alternatives?
A lot of joint supplements on the market use a handful of key actives at very low doses, or bulk the rest out with filler. We deliberately went the other way with a fuller, higher dose blend of proven natural ingredients, with nothing added that isn't doing a job. We'll be putting this properly to the test soon with an honest side by side review against other supplements on the market, the same way we've done for our other ranges, so watch this space for that one.
Who is it best for?
Older dogs who are starting to slow down, or aren't recovering from walks the way they used to. Larger or working breeds, or any dog whose joints take a lot of wear and tear. Owners looking for a natural, long term way to support joint health rather than a fast pharmaceutical fix. And dogs (and owners) who need a supplement that's easy to give, since ours simply look and taste like a treat.
Who is it not for?
This is a long term maintenance supplement, not a substitute for veterinary treatment. If your dog is in acute pain or has had a sudden injury, please see your vet first. And if your dog has an existing health condition or is on other medication, it's always worth a quick check with your vet before adding any new supplement, just to be safe.
Our honest verdict
Jayne and I have both been trialling the chews on our own dogs, and honestly, the difference has been unbelievable. I have an older pug and an older Romanian rescue, Suki. Both used to limp after a long walk, and Suki in particular would take a while to recover. Not any more. She no longer limps, and my pug no longer walks "like he's drunk." Jayne's older Border Collie used to go lame after a run around the field (and there's no stopping a Border Collie), and her three legged Romanian German Shepherd struggled to get comfortable at times. Neither is an issue any more.
A couple of honest notes before you buy. This isn't a quick fix like a painkiller. Because it's natural, it works its way into the system more slowly, so give it consistently for the benefits to show, much like medication for blood pressure or cholesterol. They're also grain free, so a good option if your dog has grain sensitivities. And the dosing is different to our other supplements, so do check the pack. As a guide, my pugs need 2 a day and Suki needs 3 (versus 1 and 2 on our other ranges), and you can add one extra per day as a loading dose if needed.
We're genuinely proud of these. We think they're pretty close to perfect. This is the story of why we made them, and the honest comparison review is coming soon.
